  • Good for home or 'amateur' servicers

I do minor repairs and servicing, springs, felts, corks, etc., for other band members. This book is certainly useful to me and gives good information. I wouldn't recommend it for use if you want to be a professional brass instrument repairer, you'll need a sound engineering background and formal training, but for an enthusiastic amateur such as me it is worthwhile.

  • The modern answer to everything you need to know about Brass Instruments.

I would highly recommend this book/manual to anyone interested in Brass Instruments. If you are just starting out, someone who plays for fun,a professional,a collector a would be repairer there is something here for everyone. If I'd had this manual 30 years ago I would have doubtless saved myself & students some money, invaluable. Straight on the desk of my Brass repair shop, when I've cleared a space that is. What sometimes appeared a secret & specialized world to many including professional players is now opened out & discovered. To take it to another level one might need a lathe and other workshop equipment. However much can be done by hand using basic tools. Vincent Bach started with a foot-pedal Lathe in the 20's.This book can only guarantee greater interest in Brass Instruments and ...

  • A very useful purchase for the budding brass repairer.

I have just been on a 5 day brass repair course in Llangunlo, Wales. This book is an excellent reference manual along with the knowledge I have picked up. It is presented in typical Haynes manual format which makes it easy to follow. A must buy.
