You will probably be surprised to know that this is the only set that includes all three of the original films (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi) in their unedited formats. Please don't waste your money on any other set, you will not find what you are looking for. The cover is the same for whatever region you buy it for, the black edges with the glowing blue center. This version is what we purchased from the U.K., but we have a multi-region player and are able to play it where we live so we got a far better price and saved about $150.00 on the resale price. Multi-region players can be had for about $50.00 on eBay or Amazon, we've had one for about 3 years and love it. Why? we got this set for about $60.00 from England, that's why. The universal complaint with the release is that the data transfer they used was not from original negatives, but they took the print from the laser disc format. The result of that is a DVD set that's visually grainy and some parts are visibly wobbly or wonky, but it's still worth having in my collection until they release it fully restored. To say that Lucas is insane, that's a fact. He absolutely ruined the trilogy with constant revisits and re-editing, and possibly ruined the original negatives in the process, but hopefully not beyond what can be repaired and restored by and with the unlimited resources from the Disney Studios now that they have some control of the franchise. I'm still hopeful for a digitally remastered and fully restored original theatrical release for the first three films, as is every fan of the classic Star Wars films. I'm hoping Disney can make that dream come true, at least, it's what they do as their business, it's marketed as a place where dreams come true. We had to revisit the first trio of films after seeing 'The Force Awakens', which was really great. Thanks for reading, and 'may the force be with you'.Read full review

I was absolutely over the moon to find this! My partner remembers the original films before Lucas started fiddling with them, but he was sure they didn't exist in their altered glory on DVD. A bit of internet research and I was able to find this. Haven't watched the films through yet as this is my partner's Christmas present, but I did give the first film a quick check when the set arrived. The disc does specifically say Theatrical Release, and after whizzing through and stopping in various places there was not a single hint of CGI in sight. Visual quality is pretty dismal, but having done my research I was anticipating this. This is the only unaltered version of the original films currently available so it is the price you pay to not have to endure dodgy 90s CGI sticking out like a sore thumb all over the place!Read full review

The only reason you would buy this is for the unaltered versions of three movies. Yes you can buy them on blu ray or find a cheaper set of DVD's but they are all edited and ruined by George Lucas (Han shoots first and the are no dumb, ugly or useless CGI added- all shown as it was in the theaters). It does have the altered versions as well making a total of six discs but that's not why you would buy this. Until an unaltered version comes out for blu ray, this is the best star wars trilogy set you can buy right now.

Bought this purely to see the original theatrical releases - without the garnish - and really enjoyed seeing them again. The originals are video quality with huge letterbox format (to deter you from watching?) although adjust your picture settings to reduce. In sum, if you're of that age where you just want to see the originally released - go for it.

There has been another revision since this release, but this version has the original theatrical releases on the bonus discs. I'm one of those old stick-in-the-muds who saw the films when they were originally released, so my enjoyment is as much based on nostalgia as it is in the story, and I like them like that. The remastering with added effects are more visually what the next generation expect to see from this kind of movie, and if you didn't see them first time round you won't know about the changes. Take your pick and enjoy a series that is more like cowboys and indians in space than sci-fi to be honest, but all the better for it, a goodies versus baddies romp, the bad guy even wears a black hat.

This is the original trilogy that spanned from 1977 to 1983. I saw the original releases and these films still stand the test of time in look, feel and character developments. I was delighted to find these original theatrical releases as George Lucas has stopped their distribution a long time ago and then a few managed to get through. I will treasure these copies. An absolutely brilliant story.

So nice to see the original release version so much better than the later special editions. Just a shame Lucus and Disney have not released them on Blu-ray and 4k. Deed

Great having three parts in the one box, allowing me to watch them all one after the other. Great price and an all round great product.
