This translation is one which received Tolstoy's approval. AUTHOR: Leo Tolstoy (1828 -1910) is one of the major figures in world literature, and 'War and Peace' is in contention to be considered the greatest novel ever written. Well worth it
Having watched the original BBC drama dvd I wanted to read the book to see how accurate it was. I am currently 450 pages through and am not disappointed. I think it may help that I know the story already but I still find it a compelling read. My only criticism is having to look elsewhere in the book for the English translation of long passages in French. Thankfully there are not many of these and I have decided to finish the book and then look up the translations later.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Thoroughly enjoying reading War and Peace during lock down. Beautifully written. History, romance, war, peace and intrigue are all displayed on this compelling story. Only reading twenty pages a day to pace myself which will take eight weeks as it comprises of over twelve hundred pages.
