Synopsis
In light of the tumultuous past three decades in Ireland, this book gathers eleven different philosophical approaches to facing misfortunes and coping with the vicissitudes of life. The issues are introduced in an accessible and engaging manner. The thoughts of Plato and Kant are explored and schools such as Stoicism, Epicureanism, Pragmatism, and Existentialism are presented. Buddhism, Quietism, the benefits of craft, and the question of whether philosophy can indeed console are discussed. "They could be the most central discussions that the nation faces as it charts its way out of the deepest financial crisis in the relatively short history of the state... This provocative book wants to help you fashion a new philosophy for Ireland's sudden challenge."-Irish Voice, This book offers eleven different philosophical approaches to issues concerning the basis of value, the nature of the good life, and human destiny; important matters in this recession. The essayists featured are professors at Trinity College Dublin.

This delivery was earliest date! Condition, value, quality - all as described. (My mistake was not requiring the publishing date to be 1958. This was 1977.) This IS a Viking Portable Library copy of Dante's Divine Comedy in English, translated by Laurence Binyon, but it is with a cover DIFFERENT from what was shown. The tracking number was listed as from "UPS", but should have been listed as from "USPS." Contact with this seller alleviated tracking issues. I recommend this seller! Thank you!
