The Good The Bad and The Ugly but not plug and play

The best thing about this receiver is that is has so many options. It is also the worst thing about it. For instance, not only does it have that pernicious factory default sleep timer that shuts it off in 240 minutes, but it has another factory default option (I forget what they call) that does the same thing (in addition to the sleep timer.) The captions look funny on some channels (we get them. They just look weird on this one on a channel or two. That may be an educational advantage if you are studying cuneiform. Of course, there are a probably 32 adjustments for the captions option alone, so of course, we just put 'default' - which brings us to the bottom line. If you don't want to go through the entire setup and options menus, you will probably think there is something wrong with ...

        converter box

My building has been under MAJOR renovations, that`s why it`s taken so long to write this review. When they put a solar panel on the roof they cut the antenna wires. At first, I was told it was my converter box, so I ordered this one. A few days after it was installed-there was a loud snap and my TV went blank. I unplugged the box, but that didn`t work. So I reconnected my old box and it`s been working just fine. I`m afraid to reconnect this box, so it sits in a cabinet collecting dust .Even though I would recommend it-mine was a dud. My old box is the same brand and has been around since these boxes were required. Hope this helps, Joyce.

      • The best

Using this gizmo, I'm able to pick up roughly 80 channels on an analog tv.. use one also on a digital tv... which without it, picks up half as many channels... so I don't know, but it seems to have a signal amplifier function as well as a converter function. I've tried other brands of these over the years... and they were crummy... difficult to program and use or degenerate into unusable dysfunction in a matter of a few months.

      • Can't Afford Cable

12/31/2016 I get additional television channels than using a standard plug in antenna, it picks up those in between hard to signal channels. Right now having a cable bill isn't in my budget and I don't get to watch some of the really good cable programings. Besides having thw convertable box I really don't mind watching the classic black & white movies they are a lot of and very interesting. I live in NM and the majority of the home and apartment complexes here are made out of Adobe/stuko therefore reception is really bad, i have to constantly move the antennas around., it's not the covertor box its the buildings and its structures.

      • Analog Pass-Through Conversion Box DTX9950

It seems to work fine for now, but I know the units can just go out, and your remote can no longer communicate with them. This worked right away, but I have no idea for how long. I realize they are hard to get, but even so, it was expensive compared to when they first came out and you got a coupon. It was the least expensive I could find. Glad to have it, and it came in a very timely fashion. Let's hope it works as long as my TV. But get this, my TV is from the 80's, and is a Panasonic with a VHS player. Your big screens barely last five years anymore. Talk about landfills...... I guess, in a sense, it was a good value, since cable is not.
