For anyone who has read any of the novels in this series, you already know what to expect from McCammon's abilities to construct an engrossing narrative full of new characters, unexpected plot twists and imaginative details and settings. No spoilers except that "The King of Shadows" has a bit of a cliffhanger ending that leaves you anxious for the release of the next installment, along with a feeling of melancholy that it will be the last. There isn't as much of a sense of suspense in this one as in some of the previous books, leading one to expect that the conclusion will be something special indeed. Personally, I hope it's 1000 pages long.
