  • TP Link Archer ax50

I've used TP Link routers and accessories for years now. I use a bridge setup in my home; I was using an Archer C5 bridged to my Archer C7 in my living room and it worked great. The C5 was being used in my back office for work. I configured the new AX50 to mimic the C7 it was replacing (same SSID, password, guest network, etc.) and I was up and running in less than 15 minutes. I had read that there were security concerns with TP Link's phone app so I configured the router via IP address instead. Upload/download speeds are 3X faster on my USB NAS (5-7Mbps vs 18-21Mbps now) which is plugged into the USB3 port on the backside of the router. My big issue is the bridging; I tried bridging first the C5 and then the C7 routers to the AX50 and both won't give me internet connectivity now. The C5 I have is at least 4 years older than the C7 (picked up 3 years ago), but after trying the C7 I'm convinced these guys might be getting away from bridging capabilities with older routers. My office computer shows up on the DHCP Server list (which means the C5/C7 is communicating with the AX50 to an extent) but I still cannot get internet connectivity. Now I will have to buy an EOP adapter with a 4-port unmanaged switch just to get my office back up and running because I really don't want to go back to the old hardware. As a wifi router, the AX50 is great and was worth the money. If I had known about the bridging issues, I might have looked at getting a different router instead or at least waited until I had the funds to buy the EOP adapter and switch together with the new router. It is what it is, so if you have a bridge setup in your home and are considering upgrading to this router then please take my experience into consideration.

  • Excellent Router

This is an excellent router. Set up took about 25 minutes because I'm not a tech wizard. It went right the first time with no issues. The 5g is VERY fast--I typically get 150+ MB/s download speeds 20' away. The 2G is very strong--I get 30 MB/s downloads 60' away with 2 walls blocking the signal...which means no more dropped wifi in the far bathroom! I can even listen to internet radio working in the garden 100' from the router. I like that this router has a guest network option--separate wifi name and password that I can give to friends/guests. I paid about $125 for this router and I'm happy with the purchase.

  • Works fine, runs hot.

It works great. It was easy to set up. It does run pretty hot, which I didn't expect. Be sure to set it up on standoffs so it can ventilate.
