About this product

Product Information

Tighten your hiking boots and embark on an adventurous trek to any location without the fear of getting lost - the handheld Garmin GPSMAP will guide you back home. The high-sensitivity GPS receiver tracks your location via satellite in a matter of seconds; even in challenging areas like a dense tree-covered environment, a rugged terrain, or in deep valleys. Equipped with a highly accurate electronic compass that provides bearing information and a built-in barometric altimeter that tracks changes in pressure, this fascinating device pinpoints your altitude precisely. All this information is easily readable on the receiver's 256 color transflective TFT display screen. You can also store additional maps and any other excursion data on the 128 MB removable microSD card that comes with the device. If you encounter a thunderstorm or slip into a stream, do not panic - the receiver is housed in a strong, waterproof case.

    Great Handheld GPS

Being an older guy w/eye issues and a veteran of E-Map/Vista H I found easy to use and the usb loads up the maps in reasonable time. Had it up and running and for the east coast [usa] metro/topo was just over an hour. Nice big color screen to use in sunlight. Heard too many stories of deaths in the woods being lost atv drivers breaking down and fisherman lost towards night fall. So better to have one of these units extra batteries could be a lifesaver. If you're an older person you would appreciate this unit and it has a compass built in. It can hold up to 2025 maps on a micro sd chip [2-4 gb]. Make sure to have the update software [4.00] from Garmin's website. I have to go to the top of a mountain for abit to have the current date corrected as where I live isn't great cell signal area. But I can live without current date if it wont take. Invest in a carry pouch from Garmin or Gilsson to add protection. I don't need it for driving as I use a updated car gps so it's just for hiking or being in a strange town walking around and no where I'm at. Have Fun!

    Good oldie

These units are now obsolete , and the maker refuses to support them anymore , If you want to use one you have to find a good used one . they come onto the market as the original owners upgrade , whilst they do not have the bells and whistles of the newer units , they are still a functional GPS.

  • Great GPS for its age.

This is a vintage GPS. This is my second one. My first one had broken battery sockets that were unrepairable. I used it a lot. Thought of buying a newer model but, just not worth the money compared to this unit. It has a strong receiver. Satisfies my needs, which is mainly measuring distance and finding my way back.

  • Used for finding old plots

I found this GPS unit good for determining distance and maintaining direction from point A to point B, when between both points are trees, bushes and steep slopes. You do have to keep clear you access to the satellites when working in narrow canyons, otherwise your location accuracy diminishes. You have to be-careful that you do not break any of the four power prongs behind the GPS units. Overall I am happy with the unit.

  • Great GPS

Very simple unit. Easy to use. I have used this model for years in my work as a timber cruiser in the Rocky Mountain Region. My last one was still going strong after four years when I lost it last season on a hunting trip. Gotta tie them to yourself. I prefer buttons over touch screens. I don't need all the bells and whistles that drive the cost to hundreds of dollars. Buy this model before you can't find them anymore. Just make sure you get the CSx. The MAP76 is much to basic and with a different syncing cord you may have trouble finding.

  • Good Old School GPS

I have had one just like it for several years. Works very well. Does not have all the fancy features of the new ones, but I had good software and accessories for this unit and works very well for what I need it for.

  • Great GPS with a large easy to read screen

I really love the GPSMAP76. the screen is larger and easier to read. I really like the "roadway" screen when navigating to a point because it shows visually how much you have drifted off course

  • Garmin GPSMap 76csx

It is very intuitive, easy to use and has a sharp clear color screen especially in bright daylight. The only bad thing I can think of is that it does not come with a users manual.

Replaced old used hard unit with a barely used unit

  • Best Garmin GPS

In spite of this GPS unit being discontinued, it remains the best Garmin product.
