A new paper-crafted Mario adventure unfolds on Nintendo Switch! The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they battle evil Folded Soldiers, repair the damaged landscape, and try to free Princess Peach's castle from the clutches of King Olly in this comedy-filled adventure, only on the Nintendo Switch system. Master strategic, ring-based battles. Line up scattered enemies and plan your attack to maximize damage with the new, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit. Mario and Luigi receive an invitation from Princess Peach to attend an origami festival and excitedly hurry to Toad Town... but something's amiss. After investigating the eerily empty town, the duo finds a fearsome (and folded) Princess Peach-she's been turned into origami by King Olly, ruler of the Origami Kingdom! With five giant streamers under his control, King Olly binds Princess Peach's Castle and transports it to a distant mountain as part of his plan to re-fold the world. On his journey to liberate Peach's Castle and repair the ravaged paper landscape, Mario meets Olivia, King Olly's sister, and the two join forces to put a stop to Olly's origami onslaught. Even Bowser falls victim to Olly's plot when his minions are turned into origami Folded Soldiers and betray their Koopa king, forcing him to ally with Mario and Olivia! Battle the Folded Soldiers in ring-based battles that challenge you to strategically line up enemies to maximize damage! Out of battle, Mario can use the arm-extending 1,000-Fold Arms ability in specific spots to interact with the landscape to pull, peel, hit, and more! It's just. Such a good game.
I'd never played a Paper Mario title before this but got inspired to try after seeing the release trailer for this same coupled with the quick-to-praise post-release reviews. I've watched Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door speedruns done on GDQ for a few years which made the series look fun and compelling story-wise, but I was delighted to find that the gameplay is so enjoyable as well. The entire region and environments are bright and colorful, full of imagination and crafts. I previously played Yoshi's Crafted World and adored it, so anyone who played that will likely love this for the same aesthetic. Try this if you loved the classic Paper Mario games!
I want to make up a decent-sized library of games for my Switch Lite, and Origami King is on my list. Growing up, I loved the first 3 Paper Mario games but got disappointed when I learned how Sticker Star turned out. I figured that Origami King would recapture the charm that the first games had, and it seems like it (Even though I'm less than an hour in as of this writing ^^;). I have love paper Mario since I first started with paper Mario and the thousand year door which to this day is a great game. Love the Paper Mario games. They can be very tricky, in a good way!
This game is no exception to the tricky rule of Paper Mario games. They test your skills in battle with strategic ways of defeating enemies. The story line is pretty good too, interesting take on the word "Paper" was definitely expecting an Origami game eventually haha.
