    My favorite version of "Carmen" ever. Even the bit parts are World class talent! And Julia Migenes could seduce a cadaver.

    Love this opera even more now that I've seen and heard Julia Migenes-Johnson

    I've seen Carmen at the Met in NYC, in Sarasota, Tampa and St. Petersburg Florida (which has a great opera company) and never thought a DVD opera could be so engaging, so entertaining. This one was filmed in the streets of Andalusia, Spain. The visual freedom that affords (action not contained to a stage) is breathtaking. The casting of Carmen couldn't be better. Julia Migenes-Johnson is a wonder. Her sultry voice is perfectly matched to her sensual body language. I wouldn't call this woman beautiful in any traditional sense. But she will captivate you in short order and you won't want to stop looking at her fabulous face. Placido Domingo offers up a satisfactory Don José but Escamillo, poor Escamillo ... Rigger Raymond could have, should have done much better. He has the voice. He seemed ...
