I’d been using a modded RB250 on a Systemdek IIX with great results but wanted to see if the deck could handle a better arm. The OL onyx arm looked good value, British made and had good reviews. It was easy to setup being the same mount as rega. VTF weight is a little stuff being an interference fit but otherwise straightforward. Sound wise it seems to have more of everything. Wider sound stage. Depth, detail . Separation of instruments etc. Its tamed an album which was known to be recorded hot or bright and another which always sounded muddled. Highly recommended.

Outstanding value arm that is as good as 99.9% of us will ever need. It’s very nicely built for a £450 arm. The only downside is the lift/lower which can be a bit slow, although the online videos show how you can adjust this. I’ve had more expensive arms before and I think this compares very favourably. I really like the bass power too. Mine has the standard external cable, but I’d probably specify the better one if I had a chance. Honestly though, at £450 it’s in another universe to the likes of Rega,

I cant say how much of a diffrence this made over my old Linn Akito but it blow me away completely. Even with a cheap AT95 fitted this arm refuses to sound less then great. with a goldring 1042 im in heaven. Its been on my Linn LP12 and on a goldring 1.2 turntable. and on both decks it still sounds amazing.
