This item is awesome. It's original(OM). Just like the picture, it's transparent blue. I believe it uses two flat batteries. You pull the battery tab and the VMU turns on, after a decade and a half the VMU turns on without a problem. I have not tested the item connected to the controller as I am collecting the Dreamcast piece by piece, this VMU being the first piece. But it does turn on itself and all the buttons on it work perfectly, the 8 directional dpad feels a little flimsy but I think thats the product itself, not an issue with the shipping or seller. And yeah it comes in its original packaging. You wont be disappointed.

One of the rare cases where a first-party release was actually good and useful. This card holds 200 blocks of data, which may be enough for 5 action/adventure/rpg games. The 2k sports games are notoriously memory hoggers so expect to need one PER game, if you are making full use of the options. Titles like Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventures, and some fighting games from Capcom will be able to share the same VMU. Some games have a larger requirement or cannot be moved around - like Soul Calibur's base save. In the end, if your Dreamcast game library is larger than 10 games, it is quite likely you will need at least 1200 blocks of memory. These VMUs are good and visually attractive BUT some Dreamcast games demand too much space. I rather forego the on-screen display in favor of more save spaces so I'd recommend having 1-3 of these for the "official Sega experience" but focus on getting Performance or InterAct's cards with 4x the number of save blocks (albeit you need to move a switch to alternate between each of the four built-in cards). An attraction the VMU had when it came out was the ability to play mini games. I never took advantage of it because I wasn't into the Tamagotchi situation, and these batteries died quite quickly.Read full review

This item is fully operational, boxed, and sealed. The product works, as would be expected, and there is no deviation in the product listing. There was no damage to the packaging. Upon removing the activation tab, it turned on within seconds. I tested the VMU with my personal Dreamcast, where I have had no issues. All functionality, including the clock, is in working order. The batteries inside the unit did not need replacement. I highly recommend this to any Dreamcast collector. Personally, I am very satisfied with this item. I hope that others take notice of this VMU, as it is a great value.

Can't say enough good things about these. They are BRAND NEW and SIMPLY STUNNING!! Pull the battery tab deal out and BOOM you are going. The screens are perfect with awesome contrast, buttons work great, perfect! Don't delay, if you need VMUs for your controllers - BUY THEM!! I have 4 controllers and bought a total of 5 of these so each controller has a new VMU and I have a spare in case I need it.

The reason your cord is where it is and there are two large slots on top is the dirty work of this fine piece of equipment. It's great for the Resident Evil series being that it shows you your health and ammo, it is also cool to have for seaman so you can stare are your seaman. It does a lot more cool things, but best of all, it saves your games. The battery runs out so get a new one or figure out how to replace them.
