This is one of the best lenses of its type that is available. Great quality Nikon optics and a proper macro too. It also makes a good portrait lens, particularly if teamed up with an Aps C type camera. Remember though that you need a camera body with a built in motor as the lens is not motorised.

This lens started life as a kit lens for film cameras, but fits all Nikon cameras with a built in AF drive.. It will focus down to about 8" for close up work with sharp clear results on a crop sensor camera it comes out as 52mm to 105mm and on my D7100 in 1.3 crop mode it is a 70 to 140 mm lens. A good lens for portraits and landscapes at 35mm can produce fair bokeh in your pictures.

The reason i bought it ,i had dropped my camera and the lens ring was damaged! So i had to get a replacement as a standby, while my other lens was being repaired,i still use it now as well as the one that has been repaired.
I have a Nikon D200 I have owned 2 kit lenses. The 18-55mm VR and the acclaimed 18-70mm Both of which I have since sold on as they come nowhere near the quality of the older film lens the Nikon 35-70mm f3.3 . At f4 it is so sharp Indoors it is twice as fast as the kit lenses at the same f number and sharper indoor pics as a result As with all older glass I find the depth of field better and richer colours. This is my preferred walkabout lens of which I have 2 . At under £50 you cant do better. Forget the digital kit lenses , even the 18-70mm ( £200+ new ) falls behind this little gem. If my Nikon film lens 35-70mm f3.3 failed on me tomorrow , no hesitation , I will purchasing another one ASAP from eBay . The only other lens that comes close in quality in my bag is the Pentax super Takumar 50mm f1.4 If you are thinking of purchasing one of these older Nikon film lenses for yor DSLR. Buy ! Buy ! Buy ! You wont regret it.Read full review
