Die Auto Union gehörte zu den Kriegsverlierern, jedoch konnten die Zwickauer Automobilbauer der Werke Horch und Audi um 1949 herum wieder Automobile produzieren. Zunächst den Vorkriegs-DKW F 8 Meisterklasse, dann den ähnlichen Typ F 9. Auf Basis des alten DKW-Wagens, jetzt mit neuer, erstmals mit Duroplastteilen beplankter Karosserie, überbrückte dann der P 70 als »Zwischentyp« den Zeitraum bis zur endgültigen Serienreife des neuen DDR-Kleinwagens, der als »Trabant« die Automobilgeschichte des Ostens prägte, wie kein anderes Fahrzeug. Frank Rönicke bietet hervorragende Typenportraits für alle DDR-Pkw-Enthusiasten.
