"At first glance, this looks like a regular old picture book--but the second you open it up, you'll be mesmerized. Thanks to a brand-new technique called "scanimation," the images on each page seem to move, as though you were watching a film instead of simply reading. Horses gallop, eagles soar--and young readers' jaws drop! It's the coolest book we've seen in a while." --www.parenting.com, "Daily Favs"

Synopsis
There's never before been a book like Gallop Employing a patented new technology called Scanimation, each page is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. It's impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again. A first book of motion for kids, it shows a horse in full gallop and a turtle swimming up the page. A dog runs, a cat springs, an eagle soars, and a butterfly flutters. Created by Rufus Butler Seder, an inventor, artist, and filmmaker fascinated by antique optical toys, Scanimation is a state-of-the-art six-phase animation process that combines the "persistence of vision" principle with a striped acetate overlay to give the illusion of movement. It harkens back to the old magical days of the kinetoscope, and the effect is astonishing, like a Muybridge photo series springing into action--or, in terms kids can relate to, like a video without a screen. Complementing the art is a delightful rhyming text full of simple questions and fun, nonsense replies: Can you gallop like a horse? giddyup-a-loo Can you strut like a rooster? cock-a-doodle-doo Every child who opens the book will be amazed--and so will every parent., Employing a patented new technology called Scanimation, which harkens back to the old magical days of the kinetoscope, each page in this book is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. A great variety of books for beginner readers, and great price for the Lot of 10 books. The books arrived as described, were packed carefully and shipped promptly. I’m a repeat customer here and would highly recommend this Seller and Shop!

I ordered 2 books from this seller; this one was exactly as described and in good condition. The other is even better, but covered in other feedback. I would say that this seller's books are in better condition than other online used bookstores for the same price. The books were well wrapped, again better than other online used bookstores. Shipping was free which is always a plus. The books came quickly considering sometimes roads are closed due to high winds here. Very happy with purchase!

    Fascinating for all ages.

The scanimation process is amazing to adults and children alike. The books, although worded more for children, are still fun for all. Every grandparent should have a few on their bookshelf and the books would be great gifts for baby showers, birthdays, holidays or just-because days.

  • awesome product, awesome price, BUY IT!!!

this series of books is absolutely adorable! i gave all three to a one year old for his birthday and the moving pictures were the most captivating gift he got, he ignored everything else! children of any age would appreciate the pictures in this book although the words are really best suited for someone under 3. finding it for this price was great, in the store it was $13 per book!

  • Gallop!

This is the most amazing baby book ever! Something totally different than the usual touchy feely board book (although some of those are great, too!) I purchased one for my newest nephew, but I'm going to get another one for my friend's preschool, and one for myself (I work for Parents As Teachers). 9 different black and white images appear to move because of the way the book is made. My husband actually thought at first there was some kind of electronic movement because the images really appear to be animated. Beautiful sillhouettes, plus there are also catchy rhymes. I will use my book for a tie in for gross motor skills (can you gallop? can you jump?) If Rufus Butler Seder does another scanimation book, I will buy it sight unseen, that's how great this book is!

  • My granddaughter loves these books.
