    new xt race

    finally broke a pair of older xtr pedals and had to replace, opted for the xt because of value and they weigh less than my old xtr pedals. major difference is larger platform, seems like I have a larger base for my foot and more support. I do have less float and cant decide if its because my cleats are new as well. Gave it 4 stars as I've only had them for a short time and hope they can last as long as my previous xtr, engagement is also good . I havent adjusted the tension from the factory settings.

    Questionable quality

    These pedals are very likely a copy of a Shimano pedal. The product, box, cleats, etc look up to par but the pedal itself is not to spec. My left pedal is constantly loose within the pedal body from what I believe is an out of spec pedal axle. The bearings fall on the axle at a point that the thread in bushing cannot take up the play. The result is a pedal body that moves along the axle while riding. The price is right but the pedals seem defective. I have owned many Shimano pedals and was employed as a bike mechanic for two decades and have never had this problem. I have had the pedals apart several times and cannot get these pedals adjusted within spec. My main issue is that I shouldn't have to work on new pedals, especially right out of the box.

    Quality is disposable. Expect 10% life expectancy compared with traditional XTs.

    A pair of pedals is good typically for 2,000+ miles of tough mountain biking, the right pedal failed after 100 miles of no-impact trail riding. After 3 low technical rides, the right pedal failed and literally has come apart and cannot be re-assembled. I have never even heard of this happening.
