    The Mission Begins...

    Mission: Impossible's first season is the only one not to feature Peter Graves as Jim Phelps. Instead, the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) team is led by Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill, who in his later years would become better known for his role in 'Law & Order'. While i fondly remember Jim Phelps from childhood, I wasn't even aware of the Dan Briggs episodes until I caught them in syndication more than 30 years after they originally aired. Because of the way the show was intentionally conceived, with next to no backstory or character development for the principal cast, the transition from one leader to the next is especially seamless. Any leftover scripts from season one would have simply needed the character's name replaced. Despite this odd dynamic, Barbara Bain and then-husband ...
