Elvis Presley's very first motion picture, 'Love Me Tender', is still one of the finest film debuts from any performer. Although he recieved only co-star billing, Elvis still manages quite well in this post-Civil War drama about a young man who marries his oldest brother's girlfriend when the family mistakenly believes that he was killed in action, only to realize that he is still alive and returns home after the war. The four songs are well integrated within the story, perfectly reflecting the period in which the film takes place. As the character of Clint Reno, the youngest of the Reno Brothers, Elvis carries his performance very well. One can only imagine the excitement of going to a movie theater in 1956, generated by the first appearance of Elvis on the big screen, and equally the reaction to what happens to him towards the end of the film. After over 50 years, the movie still holds up very well. Every Elvis fan should experience this milestone motion picture!Read full review
I bought this movie because I am a devoted Elvis fan and it was his first. I liked it then and still do today. It was made in black and white originally, and he was young and very handsome and regardless of the "critics",I liked it. I still buy vhs as well as dvd's cause I still have a vcr hooked up to the tv. I enjoy old movies----------the whole package is awesome! No nudity, sex, foul language and the violence was at a minimum to go along with the story line. They should STILL make movies that way!!!!!!!!!! Just one woman's opinion, but you asked why so I told you.Everyone have a great day
I bought this movie for my wife because she loves Elvis so much, and I knew she would like to be able to watch his first movie over again. I wanted to see it again also, because I have never seen it all the way through. Since it was Elvis' first movie, it is like owning a piece of history.
excellent movie, elvis was a king in movies also. although i wanted it on dvd, but its ok love it anyway
