About this product

Product Information

Twentieth century Russian wristwatches are too costly for many native buyers, but they are still inexpensive for Western Collectors, and are becoming extremely popular. Watch faces commemorate all the great moments of Russian and Soviet history-from Yuri Gagarin's space flight to the Summit meeting between Gorbachev and George Bush-and celebrate Russian culture with images of native costumes from Chechnya to the Ukraine.Collectors have long clamored for a definitive reference and this new book will satisfy even the most avid enthusiast, with photographs of over 500 watches manufactured in Russia and the USSR during the second half of this century, and explanations of their styles, workings, and manufacturers. Poljot, Wostok, and Slava wristwatches are covered, along with a sampling of pocket watches, deck watches, and marine chronometers. This book is a must for serious collectors in the growing field of Russian timekeepers.

  • An important tool for Russian watch collectors!

Complete title is "Russian wristwatches, pocket watches, stop watches, deck watches & marine chronometers" 1995 issue (printed in the U.S.) This is a milestone in russian watches books world. English text, with some spots in German languaga, is the translation of the original book "Russische armbanduhren und taschenuhren, stoppuhren, borduhren, marinechronometer" from J. Levenberg as well. This book illustrates wristwatches by Poljot, Boctok, Slava, Raketa, Pobeda and Zarja, plus one additional "miscellaneous" section. There are front, rear and inside photos of many watches. Some in color others in black/white. A small dictionary of russian words (sdelano v cccp, zakaz mo cccp, ...) and some price quotations in USD (not that recent... ...

  • Russian Wristwatches by Juri Levenberg

This book is written to people interested in Russian wristwatches. You can find hundreds of pictures of Russian watches with a review of each of them. This reviews talk about type of movement, case, characteristics and years of production. They do not talk very much about the history of them, but the reviews are very interesting and useful for someone interested in these kind of watches. The book also has information about general history of Russian wristwatches and other kind of watches in the soviet times. In general it is a very interesting book for new collectors and people interested in this area.

  • Easy to understand

I try to collect Russian watch but haven’t any information with it so, I found this book. In my idea this book gave me the primary information of Russian watch and its estimate pricing. Moreover, there also have many beautiful and interesting pictures. However, if the writer adds more information such as the history of each brand or share some technique to take care the watch it will be excellent one.

  • Nice and interesting, could easily have been better if all was in colors.

A nice and informative book about Russian and Soviet watches and some clocks. The nice part is the many color pictures, but it also is a great disappointment that there are many pictures in black and white. When it comes to watches, especially Russian and Soviet, there are so nice and colors are important that it really is a waste and frustration to see them in B&W.
