About this product

Product Information

The New York Times bestselling authors of Mrs. Kennedy and Me share the stories behind the five infamous, tragic days surrounding JFK's assassination-alongside revealing and iconic photographs-published in remembrance of the beloved president on the fiftieth anniversary of his death. On November 22, 1963, three shots were fired in Dallas, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the world stopped for four days. For an entire generation, it was the end of an age of innocence. That evening, a photo ran on the front pages of newspapers across the world, showing a Secret Service agent jumping on the back of the presidential limousine in a desperate attempt to protect the President and Mrs. Kennedy. That agent was Clint Hill. Now Secret Service Agent Clint Hill commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the tragedy with this stunning book containing more than 150 photos, each accompanied by Hill's incomparable insider account of those terrible days. With poignant narration accompanying rarely seen images, we witness three-year-old John Kennedy Jr.'s pleas to come to Texas with his parents and the rapturous crowds of mixed ages and races that greeted the Kennedys at every stop in Texas. We stand beside a shaken Lyndon Johnson as he is hurriedly sworn in as the new president. We experience the first lady's steely courage when she insists on walking through the streets of Washington, D.C., in her husband's funeral procession. A story that has taken Clint Hill fifty years to tell, this is a work of personal and historical scope. Besides the unbearable grief of a nation and the monumental consequences of the event, the death of JFK was a personal blow to a man sworn to protect the first family, and who knew, from the moment the shots rang out in Dallas, that nothing would ever be the same.

    Getting perspective

This book is one of many providing the opportunity to formulate your own interpretation of what happened on that fatal day in November. I understand Mr. Hill was the closest witness in proximity to this event, but he does not provide overwhelming confidence to believe the fatal shot did not come from the front. I thank Mr. Hill for his service and I cannot even imagine the horrific sight and circumstances he had to endure that day. The controversial issue I would like to address is why would he have been called into autopsy room after it was completed-it just does not make sense. I wish he would have come forward sooner with his side of the story, but better late than never. Mr. Hill's description of the mortal wound is enough proof and evidence that there were at least two shooters.

  • Book Review

Clint Hill did an excellent job documenting one of the saddest days in American history. Historians in the future will be able to read this book as one of the major resources in understanding what happened on November 22, 1963, when we lost our young and inspiring President, John F. Kennedy.

  • THE BOOK on John F. Kennedy's trip to Dallas,Love,Love,Love this book!!!!!

I love reading about the Kennedy White House years, and enjoyed this book by Clint Hill, and Lisa McCubbin! Will written and Clint Hill told so much about those 5 days, and the Kennedy detail agents that day in Dallas. Trust Me when I tell you, I have read and have dozens of books on the Kennedy's, and nothing takes you every minute on the Dallas trip like this book!!!! Bravo to Clint Hill!!!!

  • Overpriced, but an excellent read if you're a JFK fan

I purchased used because there was no way I paying retail for this book ($30 is a bit much-even ereader copy runs $15-$20. I like the layout of each chapter. It literally goes day by day starting with the day they left for Texas and ends with the day of JFKs funeral. Each day goes into detail about the events of that day right down to what exactly happened when those shots were fired. I love reading a book that can make you feel like you were there and this one does.He goes into detail to explain how and why some things happened/were done the way they were. It doesn't sugarcoat the truth.

  • AMAZING!!!!!

I've read two of the books that Secret Service Agent Hill has written and enjoyed them very much, it's just a tragedy that it came about from the great lost of a GREAT Pres. Kennedy. On that day I was in the Navy and just waking up in Okinawa when I found out, it's like someone destroyed all the citizens of the United States of America......I highly recommend any of the books he wrote. What he did that day in Dallas was one that showed everyone how close he and others were close to the Kennedy's.
