Comment s'entraîner pour le marathon de Boston dans l'hiver québécois, lorsqu'on a grandi dans un pays d'Afrique ? Cette question trouve de nombreuses réponses à travers tous mes récits d'entraînements, lesquels s'avèrent être une histoire de vie et d'enracinement loin de son pays d'origine. Lorsqu'en mai 2012 je me suis qualifié pour le marathon de Boston par sept petites secondes, j'ai trouvé l'inspiration d'écrire. Mon récit débute le 14 janvier 2013, soit à peu près quatorze semaines avant le coup d'envoi du marathon de Boston 2013. À ce moment-là je n'avais toujours pas de programme précis. Cela ne signifiait pas nécessairement y aller en dilettante. Je comptais courir en bas de la marque des trois heures, si je voulais faire partie du club restreint des « sub-3 ». J'habite à Chicoutimi dans le nord du Québec. Les hivers y sont longs, s'étirant jusqu'au mois d'avril. Les rues sont constamment enneigées, si ce n'est verglacées. J'ai dû alors inclure la course en raquette et le ski de fond à mon programme ; un défi pour moi qui suis né en Côte d'Ivoire.
