English summary: The memories of the vine and wine are contained in the words of ancient Greek and Roman authors. This volume relates the traditions regarding the cultivation of the vine (a very difficult job), and the superstitions linked to the attempt to protect it from inclement weather and animal threats. The book then cites fine wines (as well as wines of lesser quality) and reiterates the fact that most of these wines were produced in Italy. The volume also alludes to the luxury of the rooms where wine was usually consumed and the sumptuousness of the dishware where these wines were served: beautifully-embossed silver dishes with rich depictions. Tornano cosi alla luce i miti, con Dioniso, il dio del vino nato due volte per la violenta gelosia della consorte del signore dell' Olimpo e le storie fantastiche della diffusione del vino. Le tradizioni, ovunque diffuse, della coltivazione della vite, un lavoro duro e pesante, le superstizioni legate al tentativo di proteggerla dalle inclemenze atmosferiche e dalle insidie degli animali, che portava i contadini anche a minacciare il cielo con scuri insanguinate, nella convinzione che questi, impaurito, si sarebbe ben guardato dal colpire i vigneti con la grandine. Si ricordano, poi, i vini pregiati e i vini di minor pregio e si ribadisce come la gran parte di tutti questi vini venisse prodotta in Italia. Si ricorda il lusso degli ambienti dove solitamente si beveva il vino e la ricchezza delle stoviglie che accoglievano questi vini e spesso si trattava di ricchi argenti, che nelle cesellature recavano le raffigurazioni di tralci di uva appesantiti da grappoli dagli acini gonfi di succo o di rami di edera che si riteneva vincesse l' ubriachezza e con la quale il giovane dio fermava la chioma intonsa, l' edera, poi, che era una prerogativa anche dei poeti vincitori degli agoni poetici o letterari e che si riteneva che quando componevano le loro opere fossero come invasati dal dio.
