    A historical novel with no creditable historical details apart from a few scattered references dropped in as fillers! The aristocratic characters have no claim to noblesse oblige other than their titles, an earl here, a duchess there, and a few viscounts for good measure. The “gently bred” heroines shake their fists a lot, shriek and swear like fishwives , and revel in very public washing of their dirty linen. I thought the style of writing totally untrue to the period, and found it actually painful to read the disjointed, rambling sentences, couched in a language that can only be described as modern American. None of the characters were appealing, interesting or even credible, even the villains were feeble, the plot was non existent and I could not read beyond Chapter 3, but wasted ...
