The book, Learned Optimism, which is written in three sections, is a very informative read, and will advise you on how to better think positively about all aspects of both your daily life and your long term outlook. This book provides the reader with common sense methods in which they can greatly improve their self image, and to also explain to themselves why bad things happen, and that the difficult times are not permanent in your life; bad things can be overcome. Even those persons who are generally optimistic may find a certain areas of thinking in which they have doubt, and can then learn to change their thought process in in those few areas in which they may be unsure of themselves. This book has helped my to understand why my thinking does sometimes make things more difficult than they need to be, and can lead to feeling of being depressed. Depression is an epidemic in the USA at this time, and this book has provided me with solutions to my problems, and has helped my to make progress in my everyday life. It can work for everyone, no exceptions; there is nothing tricky or exclusionary about Seligman methods which lead to positive thinking and a positive self image. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in the power of thought and self image, and more specifically for anyone who has a negative way of thinking about themselves, or the uncontrolable things which happen to them, which may be mistakenly be thought of as "your fault". This book will reassure the reader that a persons actions do make a difference; reading this book may be the first action you should take in taking back control of your life, and to begin making strides in your lifelong pursuit of happiness and personal fulfillment.Read full review
A truth is that what you do not know will hinder you from achieving your goals, dreams and aspirations. The book Learned Optimism aids you in discovering how an undercurrent of pessimism in your thinking will undercut all efforts at reasonable success as defined by you. The book clearly teaches you how to identify limited thinking and how to engage optimistic thinking. The book is easily digestible and simple to implement. Results from the shift in view points and thinking will be experienced nearly immediately. I have read it twice and will read it again to ensure I have internalized the lessons.
Owning this book is essential to anyone's mental health. Seligman is the man! I have already bought 5 copies to give to the people I like. Forget Prozac and all that pharmaceutical poison. After reading this book you wont need it!
