I just love this laptop so I decided to give it a new lease of life by installing the T9900, replacing the HDD with an SSD and swapping out my plain keyboard with a backlit. The Intel Processor Diagnostics gives it a clean bill of health everytime I checked in the last couple of weeks that I have had it. I have the Duo Core at 3.1Ghz running at high performance setting and temping at 110 F, handles everything I have thrown at it. After upgrading to win 10 pro none of the quick response buttons work but I can live with that. Installing the cpu in the socket is easy but getting to it required pretty much dismantling the entire base and is not for the faint of heart. But now I have a system that will hold me for another five years. Thanks to ebay and spare parts sellers in the marketplace.

My laptop speed jumped almost 600 MHz I had an older processor P8600 , without any other upgrades I see substantial network performance and web pages load really fast. Installing is not so easy, too many screws and cables to remove, needs lot of patience, but finally, I got it done after 3 years of contemplating over it. There is no online video of changing the processor, my Laptop is at least ~ 8 years old - VGN-AW230J by Sony, I kept the laptop because it has a beautiful large screen 18 inches 1080p and competes very well with latest laptops with 1080p screens, though you cannot really play fast games on it as the graphics on this is GTX960 mobile. I am very happy with the upgrade, initially it started very hot but after another reboot the temp did not raise that much. I needed more power for my music works, so I searched for the best CPU in the Core 2 Duo line, which my existing computer supports (Asus X5DIN). It's a perfect CPU, as it has an amazing speed (3.06 GHz) which is great for music and intensive single-threaded works, massive cache lower overall load (6MB), very very small package and very power friendly (well, it's just about 40W TDP). One great extra feature, as I also run virtual machines on my laptop, is the presence of the VT-x extension, which will allow you to run 64-bit guest operating system at a higher overall performance. I had an Intel Core 2 Duo P7450, but I constantly get an overloaded error message because the CPU couldn't keep up... but not anymore with the T9900.
I've become rather attached to my HP Pavilion DV6 1330ca laptop. It has served me well, capably upgrading from Win7 to Win10. After upgrading my RAM and the hard drive to a SSD, it seemed time to bump up the CPU. Some research determined that this CPU was the max possible for my Duo 2 T6600 CPU. After upgrading my BIOS and other files for the motherboard, I powered down and followed the service instructions from HP. This CPU certainly bumped up my performance, it is not blazing, but certainly within what I expected. I should be happily plugging away for another two years before looking to retire my faithful laptop to that great e-Heaven in the sky.

The T9900 is a Penryn dual core processor for the socket P. It has a core clock speed of 3.06GHz. It is reliable, cheap and runs fairly cool. Apparently, it can be overclocked fairly well, although I have not tried to do this. I bought the cpu to breath a little more life into my Dell E6500, which is also reliable and cheap. A great processor and I would recommend anyone with a socket P laptop to try it.

Fastest CPU in the class. Installed easily with Arctic silver paste. However, on the Dell Inspiron 1545 that I installed it in, the fan runs a lot and near max. speed. Based on that, I'm going to swap the T9900 (35W CPU) for the slightly slower P9700 (25W CPU) so see if it runs cooler. T9900 is recommended as fastest C2D CPU if your laptop has good cooling.

This little chip, along with a little more RAM, was able to make my laptop feel brand new. This is on an old Windows 7 Dell Inspiron that I upgraded to Windows 10. I installed the RAM first and didn't notice much of a difference. But woah! This CPU really made a difference! For an example Youtube videos used to be choppy. But now Youtube and everything else runs buttery smooth!

I'm attempting to 'extend' the work life of my Qosmio X300 and am very pleased at the ease to upgrade from a P8400 to a T9900 (gives performance increase of 1.49). Following instructions on the internet I had no problems upgrading the harddrive to a hybrid with 32GB of Solid State memory to speed up boot; upgraded RAM from 4GB to 8GB of 1066 (I think it is DDR3 PC8500). And the biggy was the CPU part of the upgrade - being very careful and very fortunate to have such a simple upgrade not requiring acute gyrations with the BIOS 2.10. In three separate steps over a couple of months I, - upgraded the memory. - Then later I mirrored to the upgrade drive and it ran. - I updated the BIOS and then the CPU which now states 3.06Mhz instead of 2.26 and this was supported by CPUz-id and some testing. So for less than $500 I hope to get another 2 years out of this Toshiba-Q. My Vista-64 Index is now 5.7 with the CPU upgrade moving it from 5.2. (FYI - before and after the changes, the GPU Index is 5.8 and all others are 5.9). In a week it has not crashed - I don't expect it to as the chip is very well mannered. Minimal heat increase on CPU and it is very good at self-throttling to keep cool and save battery (as if I dare unplug this beast from the wall - it's a power pig before and after the upgrades). I ran it with 100% load test software for 1/2 hour and it maxed at 75C. on the CPU's. Not brave enough to run the CPU at 100% and the GPU at 100% on FurMark. I have no dislikes on the T9900 with a 1.49 throughput increase due to speed and twice the CPU cache. This does not include improvements from the better RAM to CPU (factory RAM was DDR2 and I was not impressed)or the faster reads from the HD with the huge solid state cache. I have no expectation of any further upgrades as this CPU moved me fro 25Watts to 35-40Watts and I don't think I can go any further. While the newer i7 Qosmios far out perform my laptop I can wait a couple years to pay the $2500 for the laptop and a new suite of O/S and office apps. This is the best Core 2 Duo CPU available for my laptop and so far it has been flawless. It has a large L2 Cache of 6MB and the clock speed of 3.06GHz is simply amazing for a mobile application. The 1066MT/s Front Side Bus is supported by my motherboard and makes processes quick. This T9900 idles around 25*C for me and under full load I'm seeing around 65*C. I could've gotten a Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100 for its unlocked multiplier but that CPU's TDP is rated at 44W. The T9900's TDP is 35W and a perfect match for my application and plenty powerful without this feature. I didn't want to risk overloading my laptop as it already suffers from a poorly designed cooling system. The CPU has been handling all my tasks that I can throw at it without a problem. From games to videos, productivity is not a problem. I haven't done any intensive video tasks but I am confident this CPU will not break a sweat. Combined with a Samsung 470 SSD, this is the best solution for an old laptop like my HP DV5.Read full review
This CPU was purchased as an final upgrade for a dell 1545 laptop. this cpu is an excellent way to extend the lifespan of your older laptop for another 2 years. Although it uses energy saving technology to use less power the 3.06 Ghz still uses the battery in a slightly shorter time them the older 2.6 processor that was in the unit. good upgrade for the cost. ymmv as other laptops are more difficult to change the processor.
