  • Touching the Soul

To view the work of a great artist is, in itself, a soul-satisfying action. To link the work to the idea of creation exercises the mind in ways well beyond our normal day-to-day thinking. To be guided through the process by an artist who has obviously preceded you in those thoughts is soul-satisfying in a way few things are. Even if you can't pronounce his name, this work is worth a long time in quiet observation, meditation, and reflection on the work of the ultimate Creator.

  • The perfect blend!

This book really has me rev'ed up! It is the perfect mix between love of God, love of animals and love of nature! So good that I immediately had my husband and 4 kids (aged 14-5) read through it...and they all loved it too! The art is beautiful, as is expected with Poortvliet, although none the less amazing! The text is cahring, thoughtful, and at times humorous. Perfect gift for someone who loves animals (both wild and domestic), anyone familiar with the story of the flood...or, for that matter, a great intro. to the story!, or someone like my hubby who just plain loves being outdoors. Also would appeal in a roundabout way to the hunters in your life as Poortvliet himself hunted.

  • Painting at its most touching

Of the numerous books Poortvliet wrote, this one blends animals, mankind and humour most. The title is only a pretext to take the reader into the world, ask deep reaching questions about life and its protection. Mr Poortvliet's books are those I'll not part with.

  • Well researched and beautifully portrayed

Allows one to ponder just how the ark could have been build. Captions are well presented and the animal paintings are wonderful. Well worth the money. A great coffee table book...
