Whoever started that one website to destroy all of the copies of this game, are doing a terrible job. Bottom line, this game doesn't make any sense and that's why I love it. As far as fighting games go, it's ok. Graphics were pretty good for the time. The controls are utter nonsense, I only have five fingers on my hand and it requires all of them to do certain moves or to simply pause the game. I think this is a great game for those looking to collect for the system, but as far as playablity is concerned, it's not the best. I mean, if you're considering getting this game, you probably have some idea of what you're jumping into, so I'm not gonna stop you. Honestly, it's just fun to say that you own Shaq-Fu.

Shaq is everywhere. On the front of the box, the back of the box... with some sort of weird pseudo martial arts pose... I mean, it's just Shaq. There is no way he cannot look goofy doing it. Getting past the comic relief, and the horrendous criticism that Shaq Fu is the absolute worst game of all time, it's rather decently playable. And even if one does not like it, they should still keep it in their collection, because not only will the numerous carts of it that are being destroyed cause it to eventually be a collector's item, but there's no way you can resist such laughable cover art. And with a zany and absolutely nonsensical storyline, it only gets better. Perhaps it is the overall cheesiness of the game. Nobody ever said Undefeatable was the absolute worst kung fu movie ever, but if you want an abysmally bad fighting game, try Slaughter Sport. Contained herein, the product is a wonderful slew of nicely animated graphics, which is to be expected when the developers were Delphine Software, responsible for games like Flashback. The sounds are a muffled mess, but are not grating, and that's what I happen to like about the Genesis version, compared to the SNES. The music is rather forgettable, but you don't normally play fighting games for the music. It's actually pretty listenable by itself, and isn't that bad at all. Voodoo's stage in particular has an interesting rhythm. The controls are likely what Shaq Fu gets the most flack for, other than the fact that it's a fighter that has Shaq. They're not exactly perfect, and the special move combinations won't always register correctly, but you have to keep in mind that it plays slightly similar to the first Street Fighter. There are no "Quarter-circle" combinations, or anything like that. BUT, that's kind of how it is like in Mortal Kombat as well. It seems pretty bad, especially when Shaq absolutely soars through the air compared to his opponents, and only has two special moves compared to the rest of the characters. In reality, that only makes all the easier to master. You have two punches and kicks, a useless taunt, and the "Power" button, enabling you to run forward, hop backward, pull off some special moves, and even block some projectiles without suffering damage. The fact of the matter is, none of the attacks can be pulled off on a dime, so the game rather strategically becomes a matter of timing and getting the combinations correct. Some opponents you must adjust your strategy for. Even when you lose, you get a screen telling you one special move that the character had for their arsenal. All in all, this game has a really bad rep, whilst almost every review for it I've seen has been for the SNES version, containing even less characters and stages, and much more lacking music. In that sense, and in light of all that I have stated above, I heartily recommend this on the Sega Genesis console. I also must stress that practice makes perfect; moreso than Eternal Champions, anyway. You will either enjoy the nonsensical story, the epileptic presentation, or heck... even the cover art itself. For roughly 5 or 6 bucks, this won't set your wallet back by very much, and you may even enjoy it. Hard to believe how positive I am? Well, I'm dead serious. You can't always go on everything the reviewers say. Me included. You just have to find out for yourself. My two cents, and in finding out for myself, I can honestly say I've enjoyed it well. In closing, I hope I've helped with your decision.Read full review
Shaq Fu. A name that echoes in the hearts of those who grew up in a time when Shaq was king. This is a game that you don't love because it's fun. You don't love this game because it's good. Infact, when it comes to playability, this game pretty much scores a 0 out of 5. It's god awful. But that's not why I, or anybody else would purchase it. So why is it worth having? Because this game is a piece of history. It's something that should be held onto and cherished. It's a game that should bring back memories to all of those who watched him in such star roles as "Kazaam" and then said "I wish there was a videogame with him in it. Oh wait ... there is!" Don't spend money on this game if you want to play a great game. Because it's terrible. Spend money on it if you want to put it in a vault and pass it down to your children's children's children. Cherish it. Love it. Loathe it. Playability? 0 out of 5 Artistic? 1 out of 5 Sound? 1 out of 5 Value? 5 out of 5 Overall? 5 out of 5. Nostalgia trumps everything.Read full review
I was a huge Shaq fan when this came out and I can remember playing it on the Sega Channel. Even back than I thought this is one of the worst games ever made though. Graphics even for Sega Genesis aren't that great, controls are horrible, story... is there a story??? Shaq may have actually been the one that wrote the story and dialouge, game play and all around experiance isn't that great. That said I mainly added this to my collection to see if what I remembered was correct and just to add it so I can tell people I own Shaq-Fu to see the look of disgust on their face heheh. If you collect fighting games you may add this as it is an infamous game in the genre, or if you collect Shaq items it shows his popularity at the time, or if you pride yourself on collecting or playing horrible games GET THIS NOW.Read full review
Lets see...Basket ball a sport about team work.... and Fighting games...you think these two would not ever mix right...but history has proven us wrong...with the addition of raiden and Subzero as characters in NBA jam back in the arcades Shaq has decided to enter the fighting game genre and attempt to conquer both fields does he succeed....I think not, the game is a cult classic but sadly only becuase of its funny story. basicly shaq while on tour with the lakers meets a old hermit in a china town like area and is told he is the chosen one or some mystic bullcrap and gets pulled into some realm where he has to fight everyone he talks to....becuase apparently shaq is known for his uber karate skills... but the hard controls and everything make it nearly impossible to do any kind of move Over all if your a hardcore gamer...buy this game just for the experince...if your a nba fan...dont buy this...Read full review
Waiting for the big launch of game for the Fall 2006, I am going back and raiding my collection of old titles to review. Graphics: 2.5/5 At the time, the graphics were not actually bad and colorful. Though this was nothing to make it stand out. Gameplay: 1/5 The specials are few, and rip off many other 2-D fighters of the time. Sound: 1/5 This is even bad for the 16-bit era. Replay Value: 1/5 Put this in if you want to laugh at Shaq even more after you finish watching Blue Chips Overall: 1/5 Given the title it's hard to imagine how Shaq-Fu won't turn out bad in some regard. This game was pumped out as fast as any 2-D fighter could back in the mid-nineties. Don't even bother with this game unless you need a good laugh. The Good -You will get a good laugh, and you know it wasn’t intentional. -Variety of opponents, but it does follow the 2-D formula. The Bad -Ridiculous plot. I mean really its bad… -Not tough. Your kid brother could beat this game. -Not many special moves and the specials are weaker than the regular punches.Read full review

I should start off by saying this is a terrible game. It's absurd, and a bit stupid, and very hard to play. But the entire concept in retrospect, is hilarious. The idea that Shaq was so popular in the nineties that he was given a kung fu video game is very funny to me. I bought the game because I collect video game cartridges, and I would say this one is a must have for anyone else that does
