Synopsis
In Your Garden Again is Miss Sackville-West's second gardening book. The first, In Your Garden won immediate and lasting affection and admiration. 'A book no garden lover can afford to miss' was a cliche which understandably found its way into most of the reviews. It surprised the author, but no one else, by the popularity it gained. 'I set out modestly,' writes Miss Sackville-West, 'with the idea of giving some suggestions to the amateur gardener about some unusual plants he might grow -- something his neighbours might not have or might not know about. With very few exceptions, I have written only of plants I know from personal experience. I have tried to cater for all tastes, for the small garden and the not so small, bearing in mind that costs and facilities are no longer what they used to be.' Naturally she has her own preferences and prejudices, and no hesitation in saying so; with the result that her book possesses an individual flavour, as well as being written with the directness and precision of a practical gardener. Book jacket., From 1946, the poet and novelist Vita Sackville-West wrote a gardening column in the Observer. The columns were later collected into a set of books published between 1951 and 1958. Vita's extensive gardening knowledge, her intense passion for her subject and her lively literary flair making these garden writing classics essential for any serious gardener's bookshelf. Volume 2 in a series of four anthologies reproducing the lively gardening columns by Vita Sackville-West. This volume covers 1951--1953., Volume 2 in a series of four anthologies reproducing the lively gardening columns by Vita Sackville-West, originally featured in the Observer. I don’t often leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s warranted here due to the item’s condition. On the positive side, I did receive a great deal on a very rare book. However, it was listed as being in very good condition, which was misleading. Although the dust jacket was included, the book has significant water damage—stains on multiple pages, wrinkling, and overall wear that should have been clearly disclosed in the listing.
