The beige background is like a polypropaline but it's not plasticy at all like other 'outdoor' rugs - it's really soft to touch. The leaf pattern is raised and is made of what I would say 'normal' carpet material so the rug is very textured and looks much more expensive than the price Communication on when it would be delivered was excellent.
