About this product
Product Information
Growing up the son of Australia's kingpin of vice, Alan Saffron had little chance of a normal life. In the landmark nightspots of Kings Cross, his father pioneered the lucrative underworld business of girls, grog and gambling, and had Alan count the money after school. But the real trouble was at home. Abe Saffron ruled his family with the same ruthless authority with which he ruled the Cross. A tireless womaniser, he split his week between his wife and son and a series of mistresses, even starting a second family with one of them. His control over those around him continued until his death in late 2006 and beyond, through his surprising will. In Gentle Satan, Alan charts his father's rise to power and four-decade reign, made possible by corruption in the highest echelons of police and politics. He also offers the truth behind the infamous tragedies of Juanita Nielsen's murder and the Luna Park fire. But at its heart, this is an unforgettable story of a son struggling to win approval from a cruel father, one who at various times had him committed to the notorious Chelmsford psychiatric hospital and denied him access to his own children.

- c***s (45)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAmazingly careful and considered packaging of this and another book purchased at the same time. Excellent value for money and perfectly 'as described' in excellent condition and mint appearance. This book comes from a quality series that I recommend. The postage charge was reasonable and delivery was quicker than expected/predicted. I have purchased before from this seller and can HIGHLY recommend them! Thank you.
- a***m (69)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseThis second hand book arrived well packaged and in very good condition (as advertised). The only minor issue I had with it was the delivery interval. It was posted by the vendor reasonably promptly (I guess I'm spoilt by same day shipping some eBay vendors provide). However, it then took Australia Post 7 days for delivery to the east coast of Australia from Western Australia via (free) Standard Parcel Delivery. The tyranny of distance. Overall, though, I was quite satisfied with the transaction.
- e***e (867)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseVery pleased with this purchase of Ghost of the Alkimos by Jack Wong Sue. The book is rare and hard to find in the U.S., so I was thrilled to locate a copy. Seller packed it with care, and it arrived safely all the way from Australia to Phoenix, Arizona. The Australian Postal Service was excellent—efficient, reliable, and even sent tracking notifications. No issues, delays, or drama of any kind. Great experience overall. This book is a valued addition to my collection—thank you!
