Looking for a faster, easier, and engaging way to identify plants? Related plants have similar characteristics, and they often have similar uses. Rather than learning new plants one-at-a-time, it is possible to learn them by the hundreds, based on plant family patterns. Each family of related plants has unique patterns for identification. Learn to recognize these patterns, and discover them again and again in the plants you encounter. It is possible to instantly recognize a plant never before seen, and in many cases, to know its edible or medicinal properties on the spot-even before you have identified it down to the species Botany in a Day is changing the way people learn about plants. A one-day tutorial introduces eight of the world's most common plant families, applicable to more than 45,000 species of plants. Master these eight patterns and have the skills to recognize an astonishing number of plants on any continent. Add to your repertoire by keying out entirely unknown plants and learning additional family patterns. Botany in a Day is principally written for North America, but used and adored by readers all over the world. It is used as a textbook in numerous universities, high schools, and herbal schools. • Handy Reference For Herbalists At Any Level

Botany In A Day, By Thomas J. Elpel is a hand reference book for Herbalists of any level who are seeking to learn more about herbs via identifying them by features and/ or classification, for foragers, and for those Herbalists who want to venture out and craft their own Materia Medica of various herbs. It is also a valuable tool in as far as plant family classification - herbalists who craft their own formulations can better assess possible allergens, usage warnings, and drug interactions. Great book!

  • Helpful in plant ID for the average person

The title says it all. Identifying the edible plants in my yard was the reason i bought it. Simple enough for the lay person but enough fascinating science for those who want to learn more.

  • Fastest Way to Learn Plant Identification

I absolutely love this book! I bought it as a gift for someone, but in the interim, I ended up reading through it and decided to get a copy for myself. This is the fastest way to educate yourself in plant identification. It groups plants into families and gives you signs to look for so you can at least have a vague idea of what you are dealing with, in almost every circumstance. It mentions poisonous members of that family to beware of, or if there are no harmful examples. There is information on edibles and medicinals. The illustrations are beautifully detailed. Each chapter is a simple lesson for the day, with a quiz at the end to test your newfound knowledge. Read it as if it were a textbook. I would recommend BOTANY IN A DAY as a starting place for anyone interested in gaining basic plant identification skills, to be supplemented, later on, with books that focuses more on individual strains. This book should be mandatory education taught in schools everywhere!
