A good long lens for mft

I bought this lens in gently used condition. It came with front and rear lens caps and the lens shade. This past summer, I paired it with my G3 camera and was able to catch some nice handheld shots of some native birds in Southwestern Wyoming. Used out of doors, I find that the maximum aperture of f5.6 (300 mm) is sufficient to provide adequate depth of field. This is not a fast lens and would not be of much use in available light photography. While the mft format makes it possible to produce much lighter and smaller equipment, this lens/camera combo is no lightweight; fatigue sets in quickly during handheld use. That causes the user to search for a suitable solution to the fatigue issue. Fortunately, a German firm called Roesch Feinmechanik makes a lens collar that has a machined ...

  • Good, sharp reach with only a few minor quibbles.

Other than stiffness in the focus and focal length adjustment rings, the lens works well. It shows good sharpness corner to corner, with only small drop offs wide open and full extende to 300mm.

  • Not as better designed than the 35-100 or 12-35

This lens is pretty good in the short range of about 100-150 but quality does drop off substantially on the long end of 200-300...it gets soft. It has a plasticy body that does not feel very durable....however, the glass is quiet substantial in weight and quiet professional looking. Image stabilization is good on the short end but so-so on the long end (then again, this is a 600mm equivalent lens so this is a typical feature of such lenses). If you really need this kind of focal length then I would look at Olympus lenses in this range or metabones and Canon or Nikon glass....If you can get this lens cheap then buy it but don't pay full price.

  • Great Panasonic lens!

This is a great lens to have for bringing distant objects into view. Looking forward to using it for birds and animals and the such. If you get too close, the critters scamper away. Really wanted a Panasonic 100-400 mm lens, but that would cost more than 3 to 4 times as much. The lens I got was used but in mint condition. The lens came with the Panasonic lens hood, front & back dust caps, storage pouch, paperwork. The lens was contained in the original box and packing. Also double-boxed. The used lens works very well in manual and auto-focusing modes. Looking forward to putting this lens through the paces.

  • Great range & sharpness with adjustment

Checked out several reviews of this lens and I have to agree with their suggestions. Lens needs to be brought back from full zoom (300mm back to 250-275mm) and stopped down a bit from f/4.0 to f/5.6 when using shorter focal length (100mm). The long zoom end should be f/5.6-f/8.0 for best results. Solid build and the addition of a tripod collar from the German Engineering Company make this a great lens.
