  • Verw well done documentary using only the propaganda materials of the time. Sometimes humorous and scary at the same time.

Astonishing look at the world that I grew up in. Born in Chicago 1942, we lived under the supposed threat of an atomic atack by The Soviet Union, who had stolen the secrets of the Atomic Bomb through spies and exploded their own Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs in the early 1950's. Paranoia was common, both in government and among the population of the United States. Senator Eugene McCarthy was accusing all sorts of high ranking U.S. Government officials of being Commnunists and nascent and nearly ubiquitious home televisions sets were braodcasting McCarthy's "hearings" into everyone's home five days a week. McCarthy was finally exposed as a demagogue when he got power crazy and went to far calling everyone a Communist. Check out Army/McCarthy Hearings for more details of a very weird time in America.

  • A humorous look at the gullibility of mankind.

This movie touts itself as a comic horror film. Atomic Cafe is a conglomeration of clips from broadcasts and propaganda films mostly shot during the cold war. It illustrates how much fear, and at the same time, fascination we had of any thing atomic; and how much the government tried to calm the fear while playing up the fascination. If you'll pardon the pun... this film is the bomb! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but not for everybody. Schools should show this in history class though.

  • Atomic Cafe

Use it to scare Millennials? No "characters", it being a documentary on how to survive a nuclear war and how Americans is particular were brainwashed into complacency. Propaganda. Entertaining in a sick and twisted sort of way. :-)

  • Good Lesson in government propaganda

Not a conventional DVD. Provides an overview of the hysteria in the U.S. accompanying the nuclear age. Should be watched by every young person in particular.

  • The Atomic Cafe special: Propaganda

No narration, No characters, and no present day insight. This documentary allows actual footage and news reels to speak for themselves. "The Atomic Age" is played down, puffed up, and spun in every way but the truth, from the "friendly" evacuation of the Bikini Islanders for its total destruction to "duck and cover" being the fool-proof way to live through an atomic blast The Atomic Cafe captures one of the strangest times in history and shows us that there's no such thing as "good old days".
