Written some years ago, this is indeed an exciting read but if you know anything about the pre-D-Day days in Britain and Operation Fortitude (or have watched lots of war movies) there is little here other than a Alistair Maclean-ish thriller. Some detail was just wrong: for instance: Jeeps didn't have doors and these non-existant doors didn't have windows either. The idea of as German U-boat hanging around to pick up an agent in 1944 is risable. No German intelligence unit would have believed what The Needle had to tell, since they were already believing too many of their agents who had been turned into double agents by the British under the XX System. If this sounds pedantic, then buy the book by all means. But so many books have told the true story of these times, and are far more exciting. My copy of The Eye of the Needle is off to the Hospice shop.Read full review

As it was set in the last world war it was based on a killer spy. There were some odd errors and like a lot of modern stories it was too long but still a good read.
