This pen is light years away from the high quality Rotring pens of the past. For example, on my early 1990's Rotring 600, the red ring (Rot Ring) is painted on near the top. On this pen, the red ring is part of a plastic insert that also forms the threads to take the pen apart. Plastic parts and Rotring just do not go together. Okay, the pen uses all Parker and Fisher pen refills, and we know those write well, so how do I rate a pen that is actually a vessel for a good refill? It looks good, but the finish is sort of slippery, and just does not scream quality like the old (Pre Sanford) pens did. Go ahead and buy it if you like the way it looks. It looks to be about as high quality as the Retro 51 Hex-o-Matic, and the same price point. IF, however, you want a high quality, heavy duty pen, that has that "certain look," and you have a bit more in your bank account, look elsewhere. I think the Caran de Ache 849 is a less expensive pen, and a whole lot better value. Good luckRead full review

I had a rotring in the 90's that was stolen and always wanted to replace it. I ordered this thing because it was very similar to my old one. Not the case. This pen is held together by plastic threads! Making this pen as strong as a CVS clicker. What a waist of $30. Caran Swiss made pens are close to the old rotring quiality and style for $10 less!

We Americans are missing a great pen RotRing. I was stationed in Germany95-98 and had a series 600 and still have it to this day. To get me a modern version I am extremely happy to have found this pen Super Giel!
