Very good history of the US Navy men who flew the Douglas Dauntless in the early days of WW-II. Sobering account of losses- nearly 50%- of the USN aircraft flown against the Japanese Navy at Midway and the dedication of the aircrew who attacked in spite of heavy air and AAA opposition. Pilots, most in their early 20s, flew beyond the range of their aircraft to attack the Japanese carriers and had to ditch; many were not rescued. They knew what failure to prevail meant.

This is an important but little known history of the U S Navy dive bombers that won the Battle of Midway and even the Battle of Coral Sea. A good book for anyone who studies U S Naval Air and WWII.
