Great for Singer/Songwriter Home Studio Types on a budget...
The MXL 550/551r bundle is a great budget starter recording microphone set. Don't underestimate the clear audio reproduction! The mids are slightly exaggerated in the 550 but good EQ'ing will flatten out the range. Vocals will sound good enough and dependent on your audio engineering skill, could sound great. The microphone boom stands do a great job of positioning the microphone(s) wherever you need them. Not familiar with VRT Audio but know about pro-stage gear and these are not top-of-the-line. However, they do the job as intended. The cables are fine for getting your audio from your mics to your equipment. Don't expect Mogami type performance, clarity, or noise levels. If you are looking for a great bundle that gets you up and running for the singer/songwriter in you, then look no ... The MXL 550/551r bundle is a great budget starter recording microphone set. The Real picture
These mics are not in the range of a $2000 mic . But MXL has made a very big splash with these units . Crisp , clear with no coloration of the sound . I needed some smooth silky condensers in my studio .For me and my partner vocals are key to our music . There are many vocal mikes made on the market . The 550/551 duo package was recommended to me by my nephew . In his opinion they do the job and they do it well . The value / cost consideration for me and my nephew was a no -brainer . I too am recommending these to those who have similar needs as I had. The instrument mike performed exactly the same . I use it for the guitar . My partner plays his Martin full throttle and I needed one that passes on no distortion , noise or roughness . The 551 does that . Simply put " buy a set today , ...
