The year is 1944 and America have just entered the war. Young men are being drafted into fight with their allies on Europe's distant shores. Throughout America sweethearts are saying their last goodbyes.Liz, Betty and Alice are firm friends. At a local dance they meet Morgan and Charlie, young brothers who are to be sent off to fight the following day. Liz is betrothed but on meeting Morgan, she experiences an immediate connection with him, but later sees him dancing with Betty. Assuming the attraction was all in her mind she leaves.Betty meanwhile is keen on pursuing Morgan and wants to write to him while he is posted abroad. She persuades Liz to write the letters for her, and so begins a correspondence that will change both Morgan and Liz forever.As Morgan and Charlie become embroiled in the last searing days of World War II, the letters from home become a lifeline for Morgan. Slowly but surely Morgan falls in love with Betty, the woman who he believes is writing to him, but this is war and pain and tragedy touch them all.
