Synopsis
As a result of her own experience with many kind of loss, Stephanie Ericsson offers an intimate, profoundly touching guide for those in grief, legitimizing the complex and often taboo emotions we all feel when loss transforms our lives. In Companion Through the Darkness, Stephanie Ericsson defines grief as "the constant reawakening that things are now different." Using a very simple format -- which combines excerpts from her own diary writings with brief essays -- she vividly speaks the language of loss and captures the contradictory, wrenching, and chaotic emotions of grief. The book can be opened at any point to chapters no more than a few pages long on such themes as: Abandonment: The sudden state I am forced into. I no longer belong to you. I no longer belong to anyone. Rage: The state I use to survive seemingly moments of intolerable pain. Humor: The backside of agony. Pity: The look on people's faces when they haven't a clue what to say to me. Transition: The moments, strung out over months, when I know I am no longer the woman I was, but not quite the woman I am becoming. The result is compelling, intimate, and heartbreakingly truthful -- a book that promises to be enormously sought-after support and touchstone for all those making their own journey through grief.

Super impressed with this seller! They had the best price by far for this book! Both the cost of the book and the shipping fee was far better than average! The book came exactly as described, it was well packaged and quite a bit earlier than expected! The seller was polite and replied quickly to my messages. I’ll definitely make another purchase soon! WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • Companion Through the Darkness

This book is the ONLY thing that helped me through the devastation of losing my husband to cancer. He was 44, I was 38, we had a 10 year old son. The whole ordeal was only 23 days from start to finish and it was like taking forever to hit a brick wall when you knew you were going to hit it. Stephanie writes truth about the experience of losing a husband in relative youth. Most of the books out there for widows are for, pardon me, OLD widows, and their financial concerns. Companion addresses the horror of raising a child without the father, the guilty rage that comes after the shock has worn off (just wait til you get to the peeing in his grave...), and the inevitable but also searing "You Can Go Now". Highest recommend for any widow.

  • Companion Through the Darkness

Stephanie Ericsson does not mince words in this spellbinding book on grief and its aftermath. Too often authers approach grief with tender words and boring euphemisms that fall short of the terrible toll grief takes. Ericsson takes us on a painful journey of sudden loss and shines a glaring light upon the truths that follow becoming a widow with a newborn on its way. All of the dark corners are revealed and no pretty words are used to describe them. For anyone facing impossible loss, regardless of what that loss id, this book may be a clean look at your confusion and perhaps give you a glimpse of clarity.
