About this product

Product Information

Gene Kelly's light-footed comedy is a guide to the psyche of the suburban male, circa the mid-1960s. Walter Matthau is Paul Manning, a happily married father of one who is nonetheless intrigued by his pal Ed's many extramarital affairs. In a series of lessons and parables, Ed gives Paul a crash course in how to have the perfect affair while still being considerate of one's wife. Paul is fascinated and eager, but Ed urges caution so as to perfect the technique. When he thinks Paul is ready, Ed makes him do a "trial run," with Ed standing in for the hypothetical girl. Paul passes with flying colors, and when Ed gives him the go-ahead, a likely candidate seems to fall into his lap--literally. The movie is peppered with vignettes of Ed's cautionary tales, featuring cameos from countless Hollywood stars. Matthau is his usual brilliantly dry comic self in this tongue-in-cheek exploration of infidelity and marriage.

    Bought for nostalgia sake

I like the Turtles tune of the same name. Enjoyed the acting of Walter Matthau and Robert Morse. Quit a few famous old school comedy actors used in small segments. Humor would not go over in today’s world. People these days take themselves and others to seriously. Light sexy goofy 60’s Establishment trying to be hip?!

  • Kitschy 60s sexy comedy with all star cast

Prettiest and funniest 1960s actors all in one sexy comedy. Walter Matthau, the fetching Inger Stevens, Robert Morse, and curvy Sue Ann Langdon get a little more screen time to claim that they are the default lead actors, but a string of cameo sex dalliances by Jayne Mansfield, Lucille Ball, Art Carney, (Star Trek's) Jeffrey Hunter & Majel Barrett, Jack Benny, Linda Harrison, keep this flick always zipping along and interesting. Catchy 1960s pop theme song from Johnny Williams (yes that John Williams) sung by The Turtles ("Happy Together").

  • My favorite movie!

I was a mid-teen when the movie come out in 1967. It was an all-star cast back than. It’s hilarious and witty of what men may do when confronted with bad thoughts - should I, or shouldn’t I cheat on my wife for a more beautiful woman. It’s all explained with funny detailed scenarios. “The Turtles” group has a catchy theme song that sets the movie forward. A great movie in my opinion.

  • Good movie. Not sure if disc is ok.

It has a deep scratch on the disc. Not sure if it will hurt the playing. I have not had time to watch it.
