  • The first edition is worth the effort to track down

    Myra Freidman wrote a first-person account of Janis at the end of her life, as her publicist and friend. She worked for Janis's Agent, Albert Grossman, putting her on near the center of the action, as a witness. The book is an irreplaceable account of what it was like to live with Janis, and contend with the problems brought about by such immense and truly historic talent, with boundless energy, driving ambition, and single-minded devotion to her craft, but who never had a chance to grow up. The first edition has information that has been removed, for legal reasons, from the current version that is sold on Amazon. Permission to include these details was withdrawn by her family, so for legal purposes, the first edition ironically became "unpublished". I imagine that Janis's sister ...
