For drum overheads I used Shure KSM32 condenser mics (#270141) into a Pacifica (#189903); for kick drums, I prefer theShure Beta 52. Legendary Shure quality and reliability. Built-in dynamic locking stand adapter with integral XLR connector simplifies setup, especially inside a kick drum.

  • Shure Beta 52A Kick Drum Mic

I had previously used this same Mic, therefore i was pleased with its quality in sound and structure. Back in the day I used the AKG D112 on tje road, until this Mic came along. The name brand of Shure has been top quality for years, so when this mic was introduced, at about half the cost of a AKG D112, i decided to try it out. Im glad i did because you cant beat it for the price and quality and sound. Everyone has personal preference and particular use and sounds that they want and need, so this was my choice. Its like TAMA vs PEARL, or ZILDJIAN vs SABIAN, or CHEVY vs FORD. Everyone has their opinions and wants and needs, but i choose Shure Beta 52A with a 24" TAMA Starclassic Maple Kick Drum and it Rocks! I also use Zildjian A Custom Cymbals, own a 1969 Nova SS 396/375 HP 4-speed muscle car, but I drive a 2010 F150 4 door 4X4 Pickup Truck! lol

  • Great kick mic. Point and Shoot!

The Beta-52 is possibly one of the most useful tools to have in your arsenal as a sound engineer or drummer. It looks good, sounds good in every kick I've ever used it on, and just plain works. Bought this beat up on on the eBay because I needed a second for a band I work with now and then. Best sound, consistently: Put the mic just inside the kick drum port, with the blue rubber line even with the port. It'll sound great in almost every drum out there. Plenty of FOOMP, THUD and CLICK, for almost any style of music. We do everything from metal to bluegrass. This workhorse get's it done.

  • It's a classic for a reason!

I have a few suitable mics for kick drum, but I'm really glad I got a beta 52a. Super solidly made, easy to place, and a big, punchy round sound that's distinctive and ready to use in just about any mix. If you have to pick one mic for your kick drum recordings, this is a good bet.

  • Great Bass Mic

This is one of the best mics I have ever used for the low frequencies of kick drums and bass guitar amps.

  • Big ol' lump of Thump

I have 4 other kick drum capable mics, 2x Audix D6 and 2x Audio-Technica ATM-25's. The Beta 52A offers a bit more distinctive "classic rock kick" sound - not to diminish the sound and capabilities of the other mics, but the B52A expands my palette of low-frequency offerings. Sounds great under a large djembe too! Sturdy and well constructed - easily one of the heaviest mics I own, weighing nearly as much as a large tube studio condenser! Again, for me it's about having a wide range of color options with my live mics and this fits nicely with it's locker-mates ~ especially when you've got a middle-aged slugger behind the skins who wants that thud turned up to 11!

  • Tight & Deep Mic

Love this mic! It's my favorite kick mic. Good tight deep sound. big head to pick up a lot of thump. And as an added bonus the connection for the cable is on the bottom which is nice for tight spaces. I prefer this to the smaller Audix D6 that it replaced. Now I can use the D6 as a Cajon kick mic without getting into our drum cage and tweaking my back every time I need to move it!

  • One of the best kick mic.

It's generally good for any instruments exerting a lot of bass frequencies especially kick drums and bass cabs. Compared to the AKG D112, the 52a give more a punch and thud while the D112 is a floppy 'dudh'.

  • Shure Rocks! Not just a bass drum mic!

Soon as I mic’d up the Beta 52a on my Pearl Reference 16 & 18 floor toms I knew I found what I’ve been looking for. A Sm57 would get the job done but if you’re wanting a pro standout sound with noticeable difference with chest pounding lows. You can pickup a like new used Beta 52a for around $110 all day long and won’t regret it. Give it a try!

  • Perfect for bass cabin

Bought the microphone for using with a bass cabin instead of a kick drum. It is very sound with the low frequencies.

  • Excellent kick mic. Great sound and a great value.

Works like a champ. The Beta 52 gives me a great kick drum sound, specifically designed for it. Heavy duty, too. I expect I’ll be using this mic for a very longtime.
