  • it was exactly what i was looking for!

It was a great price for three books in one. So far it is a great story, that reads quickly. there is a lot of extra features in this book to help you understand how to pronounce words or what they mean. there are also family trees to see how everyone is connected. having all three books in one helps you quickly move from one story to the next. personally i have never seen any of the movies so i would appreciate the story more. I do wish they had included the hobbit in this series, but the first story includes the tie in very well! It will be very easy to continue reading the whole series and then i can have a movie marathon to see how well the book and movie work together.

  • The Greatest of all of Fantasy Novels

The Lord of the Rings in my opinion is the best fantasy series ever written. J. R. R. Tolkien elaborately created a world with such detailed history, complexity and consistency that you are completely drawn into the story. There is no detail that is forgotten in these stories and the descriptions of characters, places, battles and situations are extremely rich and vivid. The story starts off with an unusually eccentric hobbit (Bilbo Baggins) preparing to celebrate his "eleventy-first" birthday. "Bilbo was very rich and very peculiar, and had been the wonder of the shire for sixty years, ever since his remarkable disappearance and unexpected return. Thhe riches he had brought back from his travels had now become local legend, and it was popularly believed, whatever ...

  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

In my humble opinion, excepting the Bible, this is perhaps the greatest story ever told. The depth with which Mr. Tolkien imbued his characters is enough to draw the reader into the story- the magnitude of the quest the main characters must undertake will keep you riveted until the very last page. Every instance is described in such a way as to transport you there, you can see it. Every battle undertaken, whether on a small scale or large, is imparted to the reader in such a manner as to make you feel like you're experiencing it with the main characters- you can almost feel your fingers closing on the grip of your sword as an Orc band charges in to kill the lot of you. An excellent set of books that I periodically re-read because the story is THAT GOOD.

  • long but Worthwhile.

Great work. Only downside to this epic story is the pace. Mr. Tolkien has a tendency to dwell on certain events in the book for ten or twenty pages too long;for example, Bilbo's going away party is roughly sixty pages long, and it is not a very exciting point in the story. I almost put the book down at that point, but I knew there were better things to come, so I stuck with it. In spite its verbose tendency, I liked the book. I really did. You can easily tell he put a lot of thought into this story since everything is so fleshed out. After reading it, and reflecting back on everything, I really appreciate this story. Wouldn't recommend it for younger kids though. It'll put most of 'em to sleep...

  • THE LORD OF THE RINGS A TRUE MASTERPIECE

IN THE 1000 YEAR HISTORY OF WESTERN LITERATURE THIS TOLKIEN MASTERPIECE STANDS IN SELECT COMPANY,AS ONE OF THE TRUE ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF NOT ONLY FANTASY LITERATURE BUT ALL WRITTEN WORKS. TOLKINS WORKS NOT ONLY INSPIRED THOUSANDS OF AUTHORS BUT TENS OF MILLIONS OF READERS TO GO TO HIS INCREADABLE WORLD'S OF THE SHIRE, RIVENDELL, HELMS DEEP AND MANY OTHER GREAT LOCATIONS IN HIS BOOKS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THESE BOOKS IT IS A EXPERANCE YOU WILL LIKELY NEVER FORGET IT CAN TAKE WEEKS TO READ THE WHOLE STORY,IF YOU READ 40 OR 50 PAGES A DAY. FOR THE YOUNGER READER THESE BOOKS REALLY HELP LIFT THE IMAGINATION,TO PLACES IT MAY NOT GO WITHOUT THE BOOKS, AND FOR THE OLDER READER THE BOOKS HELP BRING BACK THE IMAGINATION AND WONDER OF YOUTH. THESE BOOKS ARE TRULY A MUST FOR ...
