    Good intermediate STEM kit

The EV3 is a great kit to learn robotics, and if you're into it, there's a special flavor of Linux designed specifically for the smart brick. It's pretty straightforward to set that up (read the tutorial very VERY carefully and Google your problems!), and you can learn Python that way which is a great first-time language. That said, be careful buying these kits Used- there's a LOT of parts that can be missing. That said, the electronics are the expensive part (the sensors, motors, and smartbrick)- if it has those, the misc. gears and bars and stuff can be sourced elsewhere pretty easily. But if you're taking that route, you gotta be okay with substituting parts and whatnot.

    Not actually brand new

The set was not brand new. The stickers had been put on several pieces and several sets of pieces were in ziplock bags, not in the original manufacturer bags. Also, some components were already assembled. Based on the listing, I thought that it was a new set where the box had only been opened. While all of the pieces appear to be there, I was disappointed that the product was not as advertised.

  • The perfect educational toy

Great toy for my 9 year old daughter whom is an engineer by nature, and was pretty much carried away with it. Involving mechanics, basic electronics and even a bit of software, it really spans the whole robotics domain. It takes quite a while to compete all models, which it amusing-lasting. I recommend.

  • unique pieces and very well made

The Lego set 10236(Ewok Village) is quite expensive but there are a lot of unique pieces that aren't found in other sets. Also contains a lot of minfigs -- all the Ewok minifigs are unique. My daughter loves this set because of all the tree pieces. Overall set is very well made and fun to play with. For some reason my review is showing up for Lego Mindstorm EV3 -- my kids also have this set. They've had it for a few years and my son is finally starting to play with it with help from various library books which is wonderful. I think it's best for kids over 10 years unless you have someone helping you out.

  • Worth the price if your child uses it. Search Youtube "Lego challenge 2014

My son has Lego club once a week and they are working on the Lego 2014 challenge. I purchased this Item so he could get some practice working on the programming. It was expensive, but I felt It was worth it. I would rather have him spend hours programming the robot and working out solutions than playing video games all day.(He definitely surprised me on how quick he learned to use it.) This is not the type of present you just give to a kid and walk away. (I think most kids will need some guidance and friendly competition keeps them coming back. Otherwise it will collect dust)Down load programming soft ware so they write programs for the robot. don't just use the remote control. I also purchased a book about Lego Mindstorms that we keep in the car that he browses on trips. He also uses ...
