Normally, I just purchase a battery grip for the extra battery capacity and enhanced surface area to grip the camera. This is the first grip I've used where everything in terms of grip surface and controls "fell to hand" when I rotated the camera sideways ("from landscape to portrait", if you get my meaning). In short, the buttons for AF and shutter (and other functions) feel exactly like they should, just like when the camera is upright (hot shoe facing up). Also, feels very sturdy. Once threaded on and tightened up I really can't tell there were formerly two individual assemblies (camera body and grip). Now, my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV feels exactly like my full frame (and full-bodied) Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III. Transitioning between the two, when I bring both, is pretty seamless. I think that's a highest compliment you can give to a detachable battery grip, saying that the assembled whole matches up with the EOS-1D# series of cameras in terms of fit and user function selection.Read full review
