Series four of the popular drama following a veterinary practice in the Yorkshire Dales sees the boys returned from war. All the characters viewers had grown to love are here but with Helen played by Lynda Bellamy rather than Carol Drinkwater. Calum Buchanan, a new vet joins the practice and is slowly introduced to the motley bunch that makes up the clientele. James is given the honour of being asked to judge the dog contest at Darrowby Show and can't refuse. He'd like to, however, because Mrs. Pumphrey is entering her flatulent poodle - James' nemesis - Tricky-Woo and will expect a rosette. James experiences a crisis of confidence when he discovers a much better pair position at Granville Bettet's animal hospital treating the animals of the hoi-polloi. Episodes included: 'The Lord God Made Them All (1)', 'The Lord God Made Them All (2)', 'One of Nature's Little Miracles', 'Barks and Bites', 'The Bull with the Bowler Hat', 'The Pig Man Cometh', 'Hail Caesar!', 'Only One Woof', 'Ace, King, Queen, Jack', 'The Healing Touch', 'City Slicker' and 'For Richer, For Poorer'.Read full review
This is a another great series from the All Creatures Great and Small team. The absence of Carol Drinkwater (apparently she and Christopher Timothy started having an affair and the BBC wouldn't let them continue to work together) is a bit of a downer, but PERSIST !! The new Helen becomes just as familar and fits into the team beautifully as you go along and get used to the change. We all as a family from ages 3 to 77 and everyone in between love these programmes but do have a farming background so they remind us of days with the family on the farm too! I have seen later episodes going on to 7 & 8 and would caution a bit there. I don't' think those are any of the original stories written by James Herriott anymore and in my opinion they just tried to go on a bit too long with other writers and stories got a bit silly. But those are just my thoughts. Better to have stopped leaving us wanting more than go on writing over the top scenarios for me!!! THIS IS A GREAT SET THOUGH ENJOY !Read full review
My daughter and I loved watching this series - up to series 4, but then the absence of Carol Drinkwater as Helen here (not mentioned anywhere on the dvd) dulled our enjoyment somewhat. Otherwise, of course, it's up to the usual standard but perhaps the magic of the first 3 series has gone a little ... Series 1-3? Excellent family viewing and wonderful scenes of Yorkshire.
The DVD's came in a pristine box and all the family (9-49)sat down and watched them really enjoyed them. Hope to get other series soon
we always loved the series and couldn't resist buying them! we are addicted to them! they are a bargain.
