The Sony minidisc version of Allman Brothers - 1st Set (live) is an A+. Contains the same songs as the CD. The digital transfer is flawless. Of course the real beauty is the fact that the music is on a minidisc. As only a few thousand titles were ever produced, minidiscs have become more and more rare. Besides the collectibility of minidiscs, the format is superior to the common CD in many ways: 1. Size - the minidisc is is about the size of a large pack of matches. 2. Protective Case - The disc is protected in a protective case, much like the old floppy disc or a zip disc, preventing scratches to the disc surface. 3. Portability - Because of the small size and protective disc case, the minidisc can take a beating. You can toss them in your car, purse, bag, carry on, etc.. with out the larger disc case w/insert cover and your disc will be fine. Most minidiscs were pop, rock, jazz and soundtracks, but you there were a few more obscure titles produces (punk, alternative rock, classic rock, etc...) It's too bad that the minidisc never caught on in the US as it did in Japan. The minidisc is still alive with the Hi-MD format (that is backwards compatible with regular MD and MDLP) with 1 GB of data and music storage but pre-recorded discs have now been discontinued in the US.Read full review
Good renditions of lots of old ABB tunes. End of the Line always gives me "chills up and down my spine" for the lyrics and Blue Sky for the guitar duet at the end. Southbound has a more smooth jazz sound than the studio version. Melissa, Dreams, and Revival are spot on versions. For this rendition of the ABB lineup, this CD is an great addition to the collection and will not disappoint.

If you like the Allman Brothers, then you should definitely check this one out. There are songs on here you can't find anywhere else..."Blues at Midnight" and a great version of "Nobody Knows". Also, an awesome version of "End of the Line" that kick starts the album. I went to the tour that supported this album in 1993 and it was a great show and this album brings back memories of that evening.
Good shape sounds great

As I have said before, nothing quite compares to the Allman Brothers Band. ESPECIALLY in a live setting! This is another of their incrdible live recordings. However, I bought this one (for the 3rd time now) for the acoustic set. WELL worth your time and money!
Great purchase

The Allman Brothers Band is always at their best live....this is a recording when Dickey Betts was still a part of their line up.
