The best (non-BluRay) DVD release of this series!

You can see this "for free" on YouTube, archive.org, etc., but this got a restoration for History Channel and is visually and aurally cleaner than the "free" postings, and a few dollars well spent for the enthusiast. There's a book about "Victory at Sea" to be published in early 2023, and this HC set will be the recommended one for book readers to get hold of on eBay, so grab it while you can---the only DVD release "even better" is the hard-to-get BluRay from Periscope Films

  • Top critical review

    Bring back play all selection.

It lacks one feature that my previous disk of Victory at Sea volumes (episodes) 7 through 12 had, continuous play. I do not like having to select next volume, then select play episode to continue watching. Otherwise the product is great.

  • Victory at Sea, audio down the tubes

I love the fact that these are the very same episodes I watched as a boy with my brother and Dad every Sunday evening. The miles of footage garnered from all sides of the war-fence are truly amazing for those who haven't seen this wonderful accounting of WWII! * Before biding, I read about 5 reviews. 3 of the 5 stated that the audio was drowned out by the newly mastered Dolby stereo, whereas this program was originally broadcast in mono. I decided that 3 out of 5 was a bad deal all right, but I bought the 4 DVD set anyway as a birthday gift for my brother. It arrived with a dent at the bottom, which worried me, so I opened the package and popped in a disk. I adjusted my audio amp to mono/simulated stereo, and that solved the problem of the oration being truly drowned out by the lousy ...

  • Good recording!

Good recording of the series. Mixing and cinematography was not what it is today, so it's probably as good as it got back in the 50's. Nevertheless, it's a good quality recording and I am enjoying it. The sound mixing is a bit tricky as the music sometimes competes very strongly with the narration. But I don't find it so difficult to hear/understand the narration as some reviewers have stated.

  • Classic series

Great series Although it has aged it is not outdated because of the human drama waged during war. There is much tragedy , suffering, offset by sacrifice and heroism. Through the years when I looked back at this series it never fails to deeply me. Exceptionally well done
