The padding is for a hook style cover that hooks in to a metal bar on the new padding. The cover provided has a ridge that pops into 4 or more metal clamps . I had to reuse my oem foam padding because it had the metal clamps for the new covers blue ridge to clip into. Still didn’t turn out bad
