Synopsis
"A free-wheeling vehicle . . . an unforgettable ride!"-- The New York Times Cat's Cradle is Kurt Vonnegut's satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet's ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist, a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer, and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat's Cradle is one of the twentieth century's most important works--and Vonnegut at his very best. An apocalyptic burlesque, this is Vonnegut at his best!

The first Vonnegut book I read, and my favorite book of all time. I read it at least once a year (for my birthday). This end-of-the-world farce surpasses Dr. Strangelove! The narrator who calls himself Jonah (although he admits his name is John) is writing a book about the day the A-bomb was dropped on hiroshima. While interviewing people who were involved with the creation of the bomb, he encounters the bizarre Hoenikker family. Pursuing his story takes him from the "Research Laboratory" in Ithaca, NY (where he learns about the "solution to mud"), to the unstable caribbean dictatorship of San Lorenzo. Along the way he "finds religion" in the form of Bokononism, the outlawed religion of San Lorenzo, based upon "harmless lies" as recorded in the "Books of Bokonon," that contain a collection ...

    • Great Read!

Vonnegut was so good… observes every anomaly in the human experience and asks us to reevaluate everything we take for granted.
